CV / Application Process

How can I apply for a job?
  • Step 1

  • Read the job pack. It will include information about our organisation. It will give you a picture of what duties are involved in that specific role. It will also be your guide to the skills and experience you will need to display in your CV/application.

    Step 2

    Tailor your CV/application. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for ‘the perfect application’ but you are more likely to standout by:

  • Carefully reading the job information. Tailor your application to highlight your relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Highlighting key areas and examples you feel demonstrate that you meet the criteria in ‘who should apply?’ in the job pack. Remember, you can emphasise how your skills are transferable.

    Step 3

    Application questions. We take the time to go through each response! We’re interested to see how you align with our values and to the role you’re applying for. This is your chance to show your passion for the organisation and that you are the best person for the job.

    Top tips

  • ​Spelling and grammar. Don’t be afraid to use tools like grammarly or ask someone else to proofread.

  • Tailor your CV and application to the specific role and its responsibilities.

  • Make sure you actually answer the application question.

Can I just send you my CV?
  • The application portal exists to ensure everyone provides the relevant information in the required format. You can share your CV for a specific vacancy. We don’t assign your CV to future vacancies. You will find all vacancies on the vacancies page and can also sign up for job alerts to be notified when a role your interested in arises.

How can I find out more information about a vacancy?
How are applicants shortlisted?
  • ​A shortlisting panel review applications to assess how your knowledge, skills and experience relate to the criteria outlined in the job pack. Those who best match the criteria are selected to progress to the next stage of the selection process.

When do you contact references?
  • ​​We will contact your references after we have made you a job offer and you have given us permission to contact them. There might be times when we contact your references before making a job offer; we will ask your permission before contacting them.

How long will it take to hear about my application?
  • ​We aim to respond to all unsuccessful candidates within two weeks of the job post closing.

Do you offer feedback on unsuccessful applications?
  • ​We can't give feedback at application stage because we get a lot of applications. Where possible, we aim to provide feedback following interviews.

Do you accept candidates from outside of the UK?
  • ​Yes, we are proud to have people of different nationalities working at Sadler’s Wells. However, you are responsible for ensuring that you can legally work in the UK in the role you are applying for. To see if you need a VISA, visit: www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

How long will you keep my application?
  • ​In compliance with the Data Protection Act, your details will remain on record for 12 months. Shortly before this period you will be sent an email advising you of this, and you will then be given the opportunity for your details to remain on file longer.

Why do you ask me to complete an Equal Opportunities Survey during the application?
  • ​Collecting this information helps to ensure we are reaching a representative field of candidates throughout recruitment. It also helps is see if the recruitment process is fair for everyone. Your Equal Opportunities Form is not seen by the recruiting manager and is separate from your application.

​I have a disability, can I request adjustments?
  • ​Absolutely. We ask if there are any access needs at application stage and upon invitation to interview. If you’ve shared your request with us, we may contact you to ensure that we have correctly understood the request. If you don’t hear from us, consider it done!

Interviews

When will I know if I’ve been invited to interview?
  • We usually advertise the interview dates to assist with preparing for the interview. Where possible, we try to give three working days’ notice so that you have time to prepare and make any necessary arrangements. You will receive an invitation via email. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to reply to our email or call us on the number shared in the email.

Who will I meet at the interview?
  • You will usually meet the line manager of the role you have applied for and at least one other person. When putting together an interview panel we consider the following questions:

  • Does the panel bring different perspectives, areas of expertise and knowledge to contribute?

  • Are the panel representing the workforce of our organisation?

How can I prepare for the interview?
  • During first stage interview, we ask all candidates the same questions. Questions will relate to the job description and person specification. Where possible, go through the person specification and think about any examples you have that show that you meet each criteria. Bonus tip: if you relate how your experience will apply to duties in the job description, this will support your case even more.

  • In later interviews, we may ask candidates different questions based on what we have learned about you. Think about any areas you want to expand on that will further demonstrate your experience and potential for the role.

  • We may also ask you to complete a task at any stage. If this is the case, we will let you know if there is anything you need to prepare ahead of the interview.

Do you hold group interviews?
  • ​We may hold group interviews for roles where we will make multiple appointments. Examples include our Catering Assistants and Front of House Assistants. These interviews tend to be practical and could include pouring drinks behind the bar, for example.
